Siemens NX – Inheriting Angular Dimensions

It is often needed to use ‘Inherit’ function in the Drafting and PMI application so that the dimensions/annotations will have the same settings.

It is important to consider the dimension type while using the ‘Inherit’ function with ‘Setting Source’ set to the ‘Selected Object’.

For angular dimensions, if setting source object selected is also an angular dimension, then it will inherit all the settings as is.

In the following example, settings are inherited from angle 30 Degree to angle 45 Degree. You can see that Dimensions precision, tolerance format and tolerance precision is inherited identical to the source object.

If you try to inherit the settings for angular dimension with settings source as the linear dimension then result will not be same.

In the following example, settings are inherited from linear or horizontal dimension 75 mm to angle 45 Degree. You can see that Dimensions precision, tolerance format and tolerance precision are totally different from the source object.

This is because the angular dimension and its tolerances will be in degrees, whereas linear dimension and its tolerances will be in inches or mm. Being two different types, the dimension and tolerance format and their values will not be inherited from one type to another type.​
